Our Ingredients
Men’s Society’s natural skincare and fragrance range was borne out of a love of botany and modern playful design. We wanted to create cosmetics with purpose, packed with rich active botanicals that enrich and radiate positivity that are a joy to look at and use. To do that, we needed to make sure we only use the finest ingredient - and only the ones that were really necessary for each product. You won't find anything that's in there just for show. Each ingredient of eack Men's Society oil, cream or wash has an important part to play.
As you'd imagine, we get asked a lot of questions about the things we use in our products. We don't mind answering them but so you don't have to wait for us to reply, here are some of the more common things we get asked:
Essentially, botanicals are any oils that come naturally from plants. Aloe vera oil, coconut milk, ginger root extract... they're all botanicals. And there are literally thousands more. The study of botany is the scientific study of plants.
People have been using essential oils and plant ingredients in their skin and hair since time immemorium. Why? Because it works. Sure, we could probably go to a science lab, wear white coats and make you a load of creams and oils in a test tube, but why would we? Our ingredients are proven over time. Go back hundreds of years and people would recognise just about everything that goes into our products; they just might not have thought about using them in these combinations before.
Yes. We try to buy them from local, small scale growers. These are the people that most need money.
Do what your doctor tells you. They are medical professionals. If you don't like what they say, you are entitled to a second opinion from another doctor. But don't just stop taking your medicated cream! Do not trust any company who sells cosmetics and tells you that their products are better for you than what your doctor prescribed. Sometimes our products can be used alongside your prescribed cream or lotion - this is something you should discuss with your doctor.
Aloe Vera (Aloe Barbadensis)
The juice of the Aloe Vera plant has been used for centuries to moisturise, protect, repair and smoothen the appearance of skin.
Coconut Oil (Cocos Nucifera)
It’s antibacterial, antifungal, moisturising and naturally better at penetrating the hairs on your skin than most oils. Basically, it’s a wonder ingredient. Plus, it smells amazing.
Citric Acid
Great for skin tone and fighting against flaking. It works brilliantly as an exfoliator and contains Vitamin C, which can work wonders in the fight against visible aging.
Peppermint Oil (Mentha Piperita)
It’s been used in aromatherapy for generations, which is why we use it to scent our products. On top of that, it has antibacterial properties and can help to regulate oil secretion in your skin, making it effective at controlling spots and patchy skin.
Avocado (Persen Americana)
Not just delicious on toast. This wonder-fruit is amazing for your skin. We use it when we want to help you repair dry or cracked skin. It’s packed full of vitamins, protein and oils. Don’t worry, it won’t make your skin oily - it’s so gentle that it just absorbs straight in.
Ginger (Zingiber Officinale)
Not only does it smell great, ginger also has some brilliant benefits for your skin and hair. Firstly, it’s antiseptic - making it great for things like shaving creams. Secondly, it has an almost magical warming effect. That’s because it helps boost circulation to extremities.
